Social Enterprise: is a relatively new term for a type of business that has been in existence for at least a century, it is defined as any earned-income business or strategy undertaken by a nonprofit making organisation for the purpose of generating revenue in support of the organisation’s social mission.

Social Enterprise East of England (SEEE):
a network of social enterprises, advice and support organisations, local authorities and other groups with interests in Social Enterprise – particularly in its promotion and development. It covers six counties: Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk.

The Eastern Region has some outstanding examples of social enterprise and innovative approaches to providing the sector with advice, support and funding. The SEEE network has been established to promote, celebrate and share these successes and assist in implementing best practice throughout the Region.

This website provides links training and support providers, and specialist publications specifically about social enterprise. It will help you compare training courses, support services or publications on your chosen subject or available in your geographic area. It will provide feedback from past users of those products, which will help you make an informed decision on whether the product is the right one for you. The site will also provide information on news and events in the social enterprise world and can provide you with e-mail updates if you wish.

The Social Enterprise People
The Social Enterprise People exists to develop social and co-operative enterprises in Cambridgeshire and the surrounding areas. If you are starting or developing any of the following, we can offer support and represent your interests:

   > Trading activities in a voluntary or community organisation
   > A business that exists primarily for a social or environmental purpose, reinvesting surpluses to that end (a ‘social enterprise’)
   > An organisation that is jointly owned by its members or is otherwise democratically controlled
   > A business that employs people with learning difficulties or physical or mental disabilities
   > Activities, policy etc related to social or co-operative enterprise

The Social Enterprise People is a networking group for Cambridge Co-operative Development Agency (CCDA) which has been supporting local co-operatives since 1982

CEEDR
The Centre for Enterprise and Economic Development Research:
CEEDR is a university research centre, located in Middlesex University Business School. CEEDR specialises in research relating to small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) and regional economic development, focusing on research with an applied policy emphasis. With a team of two professors and ten researchers, CEEDR activities include self-initiated research projects, contract research and research-based consultancy for a variety of clients in the UK and abroad, and postgraduate teaching and supervision.
