Community Development Groups

Community Development Exchange (CDX)
Formerly known as the Standing Conference for Community Development (SCCD), CDX is the UK-wide membership organisation for community development.

CDX works to ensure that community development (CD) is recognised and supported as a powerful way of tackling inequality and achieving social justice. As an organisation with members from across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, CDX reflects a diverse range of interests in community development across all sectors and fields.

CDX believes that effective CD has to be underpinned by a clear set of values and principles. These can be found in our widely-accepted definition of community development and in our publication – The Strategic Framework for Community Development.

The Development Trusts Association (DTA)
The aim of the Development Trusts Association (DTA) is a successful development trust in every community that wants one. There are over 300 development trusts across the UK, all community owned and led. They cultivate enterprise and build assets. They secure community prosperity - creating wealth in communities and keeping it there.

The primary work of the DTA is the promotion and exchange of practitioner skills and experience. We also join with others to attract investment and support for the community enterprise movement

The DTA encourages the exchange of information and good practice by supporting nine regional networks and numerous specialist forums. The DTA conducts research, publishes a quarterly information bulletin and a range of publications.

The DTA promotes the work of development trusts, advocates on their behalf by commenting on and contributing to public policy developments, briefing and lobbying central and local government, and liaising with a wide range of organisations at regional, national and European level.

The DTA’s mission is to bring about a successful development trust in every community that wants one.
