AGM
16th November 2009

MENTER held its AGM in Girton College, Cambridge, with a short business meeting with MENTER accounts, Board elections and annual reports.  This keynote speaker was David Akinsanya, freelance television producer who earlier this year presented the Channel 4 series Find Me a Family. David, who grew up himself in local authority care in Essex, will show exclusive footage of the Black couple involved in the series.

There is an overrepresentation of BME children in the care system and David will use this session to discuss and highlight issues around fostering and adoption.

After a discussion the AGM was closed by a pinano solo performanc and dinner.

17th November 2008

MENTER held its AGM on 17th November in Cambridge where a short business meeting with MENTER accounts, board elections and reports were produced. The theme of the AGM was human rights and race in the UK today. Key note speaker Kate Allen gave a talk about Amnesty International UK's recent campaigning for the Government to grant victims of gender based violence exemption from the No Recourse to Public Funds Rule.

12th November 2007

MENTER held its AGM on 12th November. It was attended by members and partners from all over the region. After the usual business of accounts, board elections and presentation of the annual report.

Erin Hoekstra, Community Engagement Officer, from the Oldham organisation PeaceMaker talked about PeaceMaker’s work and vision on integration. Next Richard Maguire introduced the exhibition 'Hidden Hertitage', which tells the story of Norfolk's links with the slave trade and its abolition. After a discussion the AGM was closed by a performance by Bhangra Beat and dinner.

AGM
26th September 2005
 

The audience listens to an overview of the annual report. In the background the

MENTER’s AGM on 26th September was well attended by around one hundred representatives of BME community groups, government bodies and other voluntary sector organisations in the Region.

On the agenda was the usual AGM business like accounts and board member election. There were also speakers on various issues affecting BME communities. The main speaker, Audrey Adams from the 1990 Trust, talked on racism and how this can deny basic Human Rights.

After the speakers, there was was time to network and enjoy a buffet of various international dishes prepared by MENTER members, as well as entertainment and exhibitions. These included, Leave to Remain by Diana Matar, Exhibition Islam and the Gypsy & Traveller Anti-Discriminatory Display by the East of England Traveller Resource Partnership.
